DeForest Area Public Library Regular Library Board Minutes
Monday, September 30, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.

  1. Call to Order and Roll Call
    • Vice President John Englesby called the meeting to order at 4:08 p.m.
    • Present: Englesby, Gorres, Lowery
    • Absent: Zeimet, Runez, Lawrence, Van Iten
    • Also present: Library Director Berg.
  2. Approval of Agenda
    • Motion to Approve as presented: Lowery

  3. Approval of Minutes of September 5th, 2019 Board meeting..

  4. Public Presentations / Communications
    • Library Director Berg handed out a flyer with Michael Perry event information and a newsletter of adult programs.
  5. Approval of Bills
    • Motion to Approve the Bills: Gorres
    • Second: Lowrey
    • Discussion: Berg noted that this was a small bill run since it hadn’t been that long since the last library board meeting and that most of the bills were for books. Utility bills that show up near the first of this month will be sent over to the village for payment by the Assistant Library Director, Christa Tollefson. The WLA membership and annual conference fee is for Christa to attend the conference this year in the Dells while Berg is on vacation.

  6. Reports
    1. Director's - Berg reported that the Air Conditioner Units had been installed and almost immediately quit working because there is a problem with the boilers. The boilers are scheduled to be replaced next year but something needs to be done now to keep one limping along until then. There is also a big stink in the library – possible a sewer back up which public works was investigating. One of the fire shutters derailed when the alarms were going on and off during the AC installation due to welding in the basement. The shutter is due to be fixed on the 22nd. Berg had noticed that the Village had updated their employee handbook. She asked for an electronic copy so that the library board’s version of that update could be made in a timely fashion.

    3. Village Update - Lowery reported that Heritage Credit Union Headquarters was coming in to DeForest. Budget talks continue at the village board. It looks like just under 3% increase on the mill rate. Discussions about a Vac truck and / or flood mitigation occurred as did regulation of rabbits and the possibility of building a swimming pool.
    4. School - There was nothing to report.
  7. Old Business
    1. 2020 Budget Update
      • Library Director Berg has talked to LuAnn Leggett who said our request was in line with other village departments. Leggett noted she had increased the Building part of the library budget to reflect increased costs.
