Currently, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with dementia. The disease also affects the 16 million Americans who provide unpaid care for people living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's, the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia, stages and risk factors, current research and treatments available for some symptoms, and Alzheimer's Association resources.

This Memoir Writing Group is for those who want to write about their life experiences and memories.

Facilitator Laurel Lybbert says it is easier than you think to write your memories. Laurel will offer tips and memory joggers to help you get started. Then you are invited to read what you've written or to share something that intrigues or inspires you. Or to just listen to our memories and be inspired.

Providing care for a person with dementia is challenging and stressful, especially as during the last stage of the illness.

Michele Strauss will provide information on what to expect, strategies to address common behaviors, and ways to enhance quality of life for patients and families at the end of life.

Dipesh Navsaria, MPH, MSLIS. MD, Reach Out and Read Wisconsin's Medical Director, will talk about cutting edge research in early brain and child development, impact on toxic stress and literacy development.

Dennis Winters, MS, Chief Economist for the State of Wisconsin, will present the economic and business case for investment in early childhood.

The presentations will be followed by Q&A.

Carrie Catt, Belle La Follette, and How the Battle for Woman Suffrage was Won

Did you know that Wisconsin was the first state to ratify the woman suffrage amendment granting women the right to vote in 1919?

Wisconsin native Carrie Catt led two million women to lobby for passage of the 19th Amendment. Another Wisconsin native, Belle La Follette advocated for women’s rights and suffrage, testified before the US Senate, and spoke throughout the country.

Joan & Bette Bette & Joan is an original off-Broadway one-woman musical about the tumultuous relationship between two Academy Award winning icons of Hollywood's Golden Age, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Involved in a real and manufactured feud for most of their screen careers, their story is rendered via 14 original songs as well as live performance.

A Q&A will conclude the event.

It creates a baseline so future changes can be monitored. Specialists from the Dane County Aging and Disability Resource Center will provide free 10-minute memory screenings at the Library in Room D. You can also get information about memory, memory clinics, brain health and local resources.
